Altered Miniatures from others to Share

I feel like a proud parent showing off her children’s report cards!!

I have posted pictures from two miniaturists who took the 3-Sided House design that was in the Gazette and made it uniquely their own. (Pictures of my 3-sided house in April 12th post)

First one is from MaryJo Douglas of Oklahoma, she is 81 years young. She used bright colors and textures; she also added a corner fireplace. She has entered it in the Oklahoma State Fair and is rumored to have taken first place in the class 21- 'novelty miniature display'. She referred to my article in the Gazette on her entry form. I am so excited; she first had the courage to express her art with this house, and then displayed it for judging by others. It is not an easy thing to do, I admire her for it!! And by doing so, maybe more people will discover miniatures and NAME. Congratulations MaryJo, you’re a winner period!!

The second one is from Susie Newell of Silverton, Oregon. We are in the same miniature club (Ketchup Club). Recently we finished Dr. Seuss themed houses and displayed them at the Portland houseparty last May (see April 13th post). She took the 3-sided house design into a Seussian theme by adding height on the ends to make the Big Tent and removing the middle house peak. Anybody recognize Circus McGurkus!!! Susie is an accomplished artist and true altered miniaturist. She looks at something and sees so much potential and possibilities, then takes that important step and creates her vision. She is an inspiration and muse.

I would love to hear and see pictures of any of your altered miniature projects!! It doesn’t have to be based from any of my articles or designs. Just send me the information on who designed the initial kit, if it is your original design, the changes you made and how you were inspired to do it.

The beauty of art is how it affects people. It can be profound or silly. It can be nostalgic or surreal. Art is important, people making art are important, we need more art!
